An integrated, fully automated system for CD4, CD4% and hematology analysis for on-site, on-time HIV/AIDS patient monitoring and management.
Presenter: Mr. Kim O. Beer, Marketing Director, PointCare Technologies Inc.
CD4+ counting is recognized as the single most important indicator for an HIV/AIDS patient’s disease progression. While significant progress is being made in expanding the reach of HIV/AIDS testing and Antiretroviral treatment services, CD4+ counting remains centralized into high-level laboratories. Therefore, either the patient must travel to get tested, and again to receive the result, or each specimen must be transported to the laboratory and the results sent back.
The PointCare NOW is the first and only true Point-of-Care (POC) diagnostic instrument for monitoring CD4/CD4% and Hematology parameters in HIV/AIDS patients. The NOW is designed specifically to meet the needs of patients in decentralized and low-resource settings – improving availability, accessibility and affordability of high-quality HIV/AIDS monitoring. Operated by a nurse or phlebotomist, the transforming power of the PointCare NOW lies in its ability to do three things: 1. Move CD4 and Hematology testing out of laboratories and into clinics - for near-patient services, 2. Provide immediate results - for testing and treatment in a single visit, and 3. Provide comprehensive results – for improved clinical management including an indication for active Tuberculosis. It does this by addressing the key constraints in those settings: a) Full automation – no manual steps, b) Flexible power options – any electrical power, and c) Everything needed for testing in one non-refrigerated box.
